How it Ends

Psalm 83 Conflict

Summary

There is speculation as to whether the Psalm 83 conflict has taken place or remains an unfilled prophecy.  Regardless, many of Israel's neighbours still want to wipe it off the map.  Not all the modern day country names are used in the psalm, but we are able to overlay historical names with modern day country names.

Psalm 83 Modern Day
Tents of Edom Palestine
Ishmaelites Saudi Arabia
Moab West Bank
Hagrites West Bank
Byblos Northern Lebanon
Ammon West Bank
Amalek North Sinai
Philistia Gaza/Palestine
Tyre Southern Lebanon
Assyria Syria and Iraq

**The location of the Hagrites is debated.  Some think it refers to Egypt due to Ishmael's mother, Hagar.  Others think it may refer to a group of people, the Hagarites, that lived in northern Jordan, southern Syria region.

Timing

When will this conflict take place?  Some think it has already taken place, others think it's part of the War of Gog & Magog.  It seems unlikely that these countries will allow their neigbours to walk their armies through to attack Israel; therefore it is plausible that Israel will first control these lands prior to the War of Gog & Magog.  This conflict and the resulting acquisition of land will return the land borders to Israel as promised by God to Abraham in Genesis 15:18-21.

On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, “To your offspring I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates, the land of the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites and the Jebusites.”

Overlaying the borders of the promised land with a map of today's country boundaries.

A song. A psalm of Asaph.

1  O God, do not remain silent; do not turn a deaf ear, do not stand aloof, O God.
2  See how your enemies growl, how your foes rear their heads.
3  With cunning they conspire against your people; they plot against those you cherish.
4  “Come,” they say, “let us destroy them as a nation, so that Israel’s name is remembered no more.”

5  With one mind they plot together; they form an alliance against you—
6  the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, of Moab and the Hagrites,
7  Byblos, Ammon and Amalek, Philistia, with the people of Tyre.
8  Even Assyria has joined them to reinforce Lot’s descendants.

9  Do to them as you did to Midian, as you did to Sisera and Jabin at the river Kishon,
10  who perished at Endor and became like dung on the ground.
11  Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,
12  who said, “Let us take possession of the pasturelands of God.”

13  Make them like tumbleweed, my God, like chaff before the wind.
14  As fire consumes the forest or a flame sets the mountains ablaze,
15  so pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your storm.
16  Cover their faces with shame, Lordso that they will seek your name.

17  May they ever be ashamed and dismayed; may they perish in disgrace.
18  Let them know that you, whose name is the Lordthat you alone are the Most High over all the earth.
